Quantifying the Rise: Artificial Intelligence’s Influence on the Volume of Interventional Therapies for Acute Pulmonary Embolism

Materials & Methods

The study aimed to evaluate the impact of integrating artificial intelligence into the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) workflow on the volume of patients referred for catheter-directed therapies. The AI system, Aidoc, was implemented in July 2022. Referral numbers for catheter-directed therapies were compared between the pre-AI period (Jan. 2021 to June 2022) and the post-AI period (July 2022 to Dec. 2023). The data was analyzed by comparing the referral numbers between the two periods and calculating the percentage increase.

Results

The results demonstrated an 81% increase in referrals (58 vs. 32) for endovascular intervention after the integration of Aidoc. This increase was attributed solely to the implementation of AI, indicating its impact on the PERT workflow.

Conclusions

Integrating AI into the PERT workflow improves communication and enables more efficient and effective care collaboration.
