Overcoming AI Barriers in Health Care

AI has become increasingly critical for radiologists in the 21st century. Aidoc CEO Elad Walach describes in Forbes magazine how radiologists can utilize AI to bolster three keys areas in medical care:

  1. Safeguarding health data – AI harnesses data to provide a fuller picture of a patient’s medical condition and history. Furthermore, a fundamental understanding of AI is needed to safeguard health data and develop secure platforms that process patient data with the highest level of privacy.
  2. Aiding medical professionals – AI is necessary to help medical professionals in managing unsustainable workloads (10-12 hour workloads). As a result of providing radiologists with more time to precise diagnoses and interact with their patients, AI can significantly decrease human error and increase doctor-patient trust.
  3. Optimizing data integration – With the explosion of data and population density, the need for integrated, curated datasets has become increasingly important. AI compiles and organizes the increasingly abundant amount of dispersed health data—this is both efficient for doctors and patients, for hospitals as well as research facilities.

AI can revolutionize radiology by addressing one-fifth of unmet clinical demand, which would generate $150 billion in annual health care savings by 2026 in the US alone. Elad suggests radiologist embrace AI advances and equip themselves with the technological tools of healthcare innovation. Doing so ensures that, contrary to popular belief, computers will not replace human health professions but rather contribute to future cost savings, efficiency, and augmented health care.
