Biggest Aidoc Takeaways for Stroke Leaders at ANVC 2023

Stroke program clinicians met in Las Vegas for the 2023 Association of Neurovascular Clinicians (ANVC) Conference to discuss best practices for managing stroke patients. Among the presentations were topics on acute stroke imaging-based diagnosis and acute treatment decision-making. During each break, conference attendees met with Aidoc to discuss what differentiated us from similar vendors and how this may help them proactively meet their stroke program goals. Those conversations led me to three key takeaways as it relates to what Aidoc can and will continue offering in the realm of stroke care.

1. Full-Brain Vessel Occlusion is a Game Changer

Stroke program leaders were excited to learn that Aidoc offers the only full-brain vessel occlusion AI solution. One stroke program coordinator noted that “you typically know that a patient has an LVO, so the AI notification that we are getting from our current app is just confirming that.” This comment sparked a discussion about patients who may have a missed or delayed diagnosis due to vague symptoms – and how Aidoc’s full-brain solutions can help.

Posterior strokes, for instance, often present with vague symptoms. Too often, these patients do not get flagged as a possible stroke for the radiologist and care team. This results in image reading delays, delayed treatment times and negatively impacted patient outcomes. Stroke leaders readily recognized that Aidoc’s full-brain solution can help these teams by prioritizing vessel occlusion images for radiologists – while sending AI notifications to pertinent stroke team members!

2. Aidoc’s Orchestration is a WOW Moment

None of the stroke leaders who met with Aidoc were familiar with the manual processes involved with their current AI stroke solutions. They did not know that they were “rule-based” solutions and required some type of a “human-in-the-loop” to ensure stroke imaging passed through the respective algorithm. These leaders shared that this may be how some stroke patients get missed in the front end of their workflow, and later captured after a positive imaging read (i.e. our posterior stroke scenario from above).

When explaining Aidoc’s orchestration and how we eliminate these rules-based processes and minimize the human-in-the-loop they were simply wowed.

3. Automating Radiologist Stroke Prioritization and Confirmation Resonates with Stroke Leaders

One stroke leader after another shared that they are still experiencing long delays with radiology CTA read results, especially at night. They said that staffing shortages and increased workloads are largely to blame. These factors often lead to multiple phone calls to and from the radiologist to ask for urgent readings and then to receive results.

The Aidoc team was thrilled to share our radiology desktop solutions that include worklist prioritization and functionality that allows radiologists to notify the stroke team of positive stroke findings with the click of a mouse. One stroke leader shared, “…this may solve our door to CTA results time… and speed up our treatment times!”
